You can also raise the lower half of the shade simultaneously, leaving just the middle of the window covered.īecause you have more ways to bring in light, you have more options for decorating. All you see are two almost invisible cords that suspend the top pull bar of the shade. When you open the shade from the top down, the shade folds into itself. If you hang a cellular shade, you'll get stiff honeycomb ridges that fold up like an accordion. You can get these innovative shades in various styles, but cellular and Roman shades are the most popular. Top-Down/Bottom-Up Window Shades Add Another Dimension To Style You can even get your top-down/bottom-up window shades motorized as well. If your shades use cords to lift open, then they'll use a cord to lower open also. If you want a clear window without any shade covering it, raise the bottom to the top. Most top-down/bottom-up window shades are cordless and use a push bar. Simply use the same mechanism for the top-down portion, as you do with the bottom-up lift. Fortunately, these window treatments couldn't be easier to operate. When you first look at a top-down/bottom-up shade, they can seem complicated and mystifying. Top-Down/Bottom-Up Window Shades Are Easy To Use And you still can let the morning sun into your bedroom in the morning even when you need to change out of your jammies. They are also great for media or family rooms, as you can ensure that the setting sun doesn't put a glare onto the TV. All you need to do is lower the shade, so passers-by can't see into your home office while you're on the phone or into the dining room during dinner. These shades are perfect for windows that face the street. All you see is where the sky peeks through the top. Then the part where people can see into the home is covered. Simply pull the top part down to the desired height. You can keep all the privacy you need and still let light stream through. With a top-down/bottom-up window shade, you no longer have this all-or-nothing decision. Lower the shade for more privacy and lose the benefits of natural light. Then you uncover the window and allow people from the street to see right into your rooms. To get natural light, you need to lift the shade. Top-Down/Bottom-Up Window Shades Give You Light And Privacy At The Same Timeīalancing light and privacy may be the biggest problem concerning traditional window shades. But, the ability to slide open the top of a shade while keeping the bottom half covered brings privacy, comfort, and a whole new way to use light within your rooms. Open it up the conventional bottom-up way and see the beautiful scenery of your yard and neighborhood. Sometimes there's a lull, but other times, there are vast storms that bombard Earth with extreme amounts of energy. While solar wind is constant, the sun's emissions go through a roughly 11-year cycle of activity. "Some of the dominant colors seen in aurorae are red, a hue produced by the nitrogen molecules, and green, which is produced by oxygen molecules." "Every type of atom or molecule, whether it's atomic hydrogen or a molecule like carbon dioxide, absorbs and radiates its own unique set of colors, which is analogous to how every human being has a unique set of fingerprints," Teets told. The bright colors of the northern lights are dictated by the chemical composition of Earth's atmosphere. "These particles are deflected towards the poles of Earth by our planet's magnetic field and interact with our atmosphere, depositing energy and causing the atmosphere to fluoresce," said astronomer Billy Teets, the director of Dyer Observatory at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. ![]() Still, the fact of the matter is, our favorite Starfleet crews regularly traveled well beyond the speed of light as they whizzed between one planet and another. It seems the Federation altered its scale as time went on. The point is, there's a whole lot of space out there and getting anywhere interesting takes way too long. The numbers get a little wiggly, owing to the constant movement of the two involved planets, but a crewed trip to Mars, using current technology, would take about nine months. Getting to Mars, our best candidate for setting boots on another world, is an even worse prospect.
